Located in the historical heart of Paris, the Church of Saint Ephrem with its outstanding acoustics is a regular venue for concerts of classical music. This ancient Latin quarter church was constructed in 1733 in the Corinthian style. It was used by a variety of different faiths until the late 19th Century, when it became a center for Catholic social movements founded by Robert and Albert de Mun. The interior is classically embellished with an impressive collection of paintings.

Anyone who has seen Mathieu Amalric’s new film, On Tour, already knows what new burlesque is. They have seen its new-creatures acting in the movies. But they have not seen them ‘for real’, and that’s obviously a whole different experience. A series of busty American women served up on stage, but on a stage that they individually chose and that they themselves decorated with photos from yeasteryear. As the ‘new’ indicates, this movement revists the ‘old’ burlesque: a show performed by women and centering around strip-tease, but that partially defuses the erotics of nudity by transforming it into a form of comedy or of quirky and off-beat showmanship. More ‘tease’ than ‘strip’, in a way.

In the 1990′s, several American women, using a clever mix of burlesque and queer theories, reinvented an eccentric, emotico-outrageous comic presence that was necessarily just too much. Today they are named Dirty Martini, Kitten On The Keys, Julie Atlas Muz, Evie Lovelle, Mimi Le Meaux or Roxy Roulette. These names contain entire (theatrical) programs.
